A gore-filled take on a much-loved nursery rhyme has seen a Dundee University graduate nominated for a top horror film award.
Nursery Crimes is the work of artist and animator Laura Whyte, who graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College with a Masters in media arts and imaging this year.
Laura (25) is a huge fan of the horror genre and her short animation was one of the highlights of this year’s Dundee Masters Show.
The film will now be shown at the British Horror Film Festival in Bournemouth on October 30 and is also nominated in the “best short film” category.
The British Horror Film Festival showcases the best in UK and international independent horror films.
This is Laura’s first award nomination, although Nursery Crimes will be shown at other film festivals this year.
Glasgow-born Laura is currently teaching 2D animation at Dundee College.
“The idea has been around for a while a friend and I first wrote it when we were 15,” she said.
“For my Masters project I thought it was something I could revisit and refine, and I’m really pleased with the outcome.
“I’m a big horror fan I especially love Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films.”
