New businesses, the arrival of the V&A and a number of exciting prospects made Dundee the “obvious” location for a new smartphone app, according to its developers.
“Mi Dundee” has been launched to keep people up to date with events in the city and showcase local restaurants, shops and entertainment.
The app, available as a free download for iPhone and Android, was the brainchild of Richard Gray and Colin Munro.
It provides a pocket guide to the city, allowing businesses to keep users informed with the latest special offers and events.Anybody wishing to download the app to their smartphone can do so for free at www.midundee.co.uk.With Dundee on the cusp of a number of exciting new developments, those behind the app believe the city is the ideal place to show off their new technology.
Richard Gray told The Courier, “My business partner used to be in the restaurant business and found it quite frustrating to get messages to different people and that was when ‘Mi’ was born.
“We had really good feedback in Inverness and the natural step was to set it up elsewhere.
“Dundee was the obvious choice as it’s a really vibrant city. There’s a large student community, exciting businesses and a lot going on.
“With the V&A coming as well, there is a real buzz about the place.”
Though only launched recently, uptake is said to be high with hundreds having downloaded the app and businesses said to be keen to advertise.
Although it remains early days for the Dundee app, Mr Gray is already keen to expand to other areas of Tayside and predicts that “Mi” really is providing a new way for people to navigate their community.
He added, “We’ve had great feedback from consumers and businesses. We only just launched the app, but we’re already averaging 130-150 a week.
“There’s still a lot to do in Dundee, but hopefully we will be looking at Perth very soon. It’s going from strength to strength.”
