Tired of texting, enraged by email, sick of social networking? Then you are not alone.
A study has found that almost half of Scots have sometimes become so overwhelmed by communications technology that they felt the need to escape from it.
The findings, which were part of international research carried out by Cambridge University, also discovered no doubt to the surprise of many parents that even children often wish to turn off their technology.
Almost two-thirds of the people surveyed, including children, said they preferred to communicate face-to-face and more than a third said technology had sometimes disrupted their family life.
Just over half of the Scots questioned said their priority was to spend less time on social networking sites such as Facebook. One in seven said they wanted to stop texting so often and a similar proportion said cutting email use was their goal.
Research leader Professor John Clarkson said, “There is much discussion about whether communications technology is affecting us for the better or worse.
“The research has shown that it is seen by most as a positive tool but there are examples where people are not managing usage as well as they could be. It is not necessarily the amount, but the way in which it is used.”
