A community council in Angus has become the first locally to set up a Facebook page in a bid to publicise its activities and raise its profile.
Community councillors in Ferryden were keen to take the step to make its presence felt among locals.
Chairman Gordon Brown said they had even beaten Angus Council in the Facebook race, to a page you can find here. The committee is also negotiating the inclusion of a community council page on the community website www.ferrydenonline.co.uk.
Mr Brown said, “So far all we have is a map of the ward so people can see whether or not they’re included in it but in the future we can post photos and copies of minutes from meetings.”
It has also been suggested that the community council could produce its own newsletter, to be distributed through the school, which was also put forward as a possible location for a community council noticeboard.
Meanwhile, the community council is investigating sources of funding to prevent a cairn on a popular walking route from toppling into the sea due to further coastal erosion.
The cairn was installed at Ferryden to mark the end of the Great Outdoors Challenge but is now perilously close to the waves.
Much of the Montrose coastline is experiencing erosion and a Dundee University team is undertaking a two-year Holyrood-funded study of its impact with a view to finding a solution. A report is due out this month.
The findings of the second phase of the report will be presented to the Montrose Beach Study Stakeholder Group comprising the port authority, Montrose Golf Links, Angus Council, Marine Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Montrose Basin Local Nature Reserve and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
