Few books tie teaching at Madras College with competing in the 1972 Munich Olympics, but a St Andrews man’s autobiography has done just that.
Donald Macgregor has worked on Running My Life for two years, and it will be launched early next month.
Mr Macgregor, the Liberal Democrat councillor for East Neuk and Landward, stressed the 360 pages do not contain any “kiss and tell” stories.
“The reason I wrote this was because of my father,” he said. “When he died there were parts of his life I knew nothing about, so I decided to write this book for my children.”
An accomplished long-distance runner, Mr Macgregor took part in a host of races during his career.
He named his seventh-place finish in the Olympics as one of his career highlights, alongside his participation in the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and the 1974 Games held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Running My Life will be launched in St Andrews on Saturday, November 6, at 2pm in J. & G. Innes.
