With a price tag of £19,350, this pen is a fair way more expensive than your average biro.
Only a few extremely wealthy golfers will ever be able to use it mark their scorecard, as only 18 are being produced.
The solid gold roller ball pen is made by upmarket Italian pen manufacturer Montegrappa to commemorate the 150th anniversary Open Championship in St Andrews.
It and a matching fountain pen features a relief of an original illustration of the Old Course on the barrel, the logo of the links and a golf ball cabochon on the cap.
Licensed by St Andrews Links Trust, the instruments are part of a range due to go on sale in the UK in September, their release having been delayed.
Montegrappa says interest in the Old Course has never been higher.
Sales manager Graham Knappet, of UK distributer GBA Pen Company, expects the pens will score a hole-in-one with both collectors and wealthy golf fans.
Admitting the market for them was very niche, he said, “They will probably go up for sale in stores like Harrods.
“The clientele there and collectors will like that sort of thing-people who have the money to spare.”
The range of St Andrews Links pens starts at a relatively modest £1175.
Links trust brand development manager Izzy Cameron said, “We are delighted to be working with a company with the history and heritage of Montegrappa.
“This licence extends our world famous brand into an area where the owners of the pens can appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of Montegrappa’s products, just as those who play our courses appreciate the legacy of 600 years of golfing history.”
Guiseppe Aquila, of Montegrappa, said the company was proud to work with the trust.
“St Andrews Links and Montegrappa are two historic institutions that are at the forefront of their respective fields.
“St Andrews Links preserves and promotes the noble game, for us it’s the beauty of handwriting.”
The number of each version of the pen has been specially chosen 18 equating to the number of holes in a round.
There are 150 hand-painted silver fountain and roller pens, for the 150 years of the Open.
To symbolise the playing of golf on the links at St Andrews since around 1400 AD, 1400 silver relief versions will be made.
