Indie-punk popsters Tubelord return to Dexters in Dundee on April 27, armed with their debut album Our First American Friends.
Comprising Jo Prendergast (vocals/guitar), Sean Bamberger (bass) and David Catmur (drums), the trio formed in the winter of 2006 through a mixture of boredom and romance.
Since then their fizzing combination of breakneck pop, anvil-heavy riffs and super-infectious chorus-like refrains have invited comparisons in the press with Biffy Clyro and At The Drive-In.
At the start of last year, Tubelord entered the studio in London with rising producer Tristan Ivemy (The Holloways, The Mescalitas) for what would become their debut album.
The record is the summation of everything that’s happened to them so far, a thrilling opening gambit that’s the sound of three young men opening their eyes to the possibilities ahead.
“The reason the album is called Our First American Friends,” says Jo, “is related to our overwhelming naivete whilst on tour over Easter last year.
“It was the first time we were on a ‘proper’ tour, having a rider and being in awe of having a real-life roadie and making friends with other bands in the process.
“One of the bands was from LA, thus becoming our first American friends. We thought that was cute.”
Their live shows round the UK this year alone have seen the band share stages with bands as diverse as Danananananakroyd, Johnny Foreigner, Hadouken and Oceansize.
Tubelord return to the venue after a successful show at the tail end of last year, with excellent support from The Floor, The Forward Motion and As he Falls.
Doors open at 8pm on April 27.
