The View are to play an intimate and silent charity gig in Dundee the day before taking to the main stage at T in The Park in front of tens of thousands of fans.
The Dryburgh four-piece are appearing on July 7 at one of the most unusual venues of their career the underground car park at the Overgate shopping centre.
Proceeds from the gig, which will be relayed to the 500-strong audience through headphones to avoid disturbing other businesses in the city centre, will be donated to new children’s charity Help For Kids.
The View’s last gig in the city was in April, when 2200 fans packed into the Caird Hall to see them perform a blistering set including classic tracks such as Superstar Tradesman and Wasted Little DJs, as well as new material from their latest album, Bread and Circuses.
The Overgate gig is the perfect chance for the band to hone their live act ahead of TiTP, where, a day later, they will follow Big Country on to the main stage. The View will entertain up to 60,000 campers set up for the weekend at Balado.
A spokeswoman for the Overgate said they were delighted The View had agreed to support Help For Kids, which has been set up by Wave 102 and is supported by the centre.
The charity aims to raise £1m which will be used to assist disadvantaged children locally.
“The View have very, very kindly agreed to show their support for the charity by doing this,” the spokeswoman said. “The idea is that people coming along will donate money, 100% of which will go towards Help For Kids.
“The View have always shown a huge commitment to their local community and have now come forward to help us launch this new charity, which is amazing.”
The Overgate gig takes place next Thursday at 2pm, and entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
