Ricky Ross will play the first gig in the newly-refurbished Gardyne Theatre in Dundee.
The singer-songwriter, who just played Glastonbury and will headline the Belladrum Festival at Beauly near Inverness in August with the band, will perform songs from his 30-year career when he appears at the theatre on Wednesday, August 24.
The musician’s links with the city are a matter of record he was born and raised here but perhaps less well known is the fact Ricky made his debut public performance on stage at Gardyne Theatre.
He said, “It’s a total joy to even think of coming to the refurbished theatre. I performed on this stage many times but on one particular day, the first band I ever joined made their first performance there to an audience of 15 or so people.
“I’m bringing along my close friend and producer Davie Scott (from The Pearlfishers) and we will perform songs I’ve written over the last 30 years for Deacon Blue, my own solo records and for other artists. I might even find one from before that.”
Gardyne Theatre has been closed for the past two years while the new Dundee College Gardyne Campus was undergoing a £48 million refurbishment, which was completed last month.
Tickets for Ricky’s show are £20 from the box office at City Square. Telephone 434940 or email citybox@dundeecity.gov.uk.
