Police had to be called to intercept a bus carrying Dundee band The View and their entourage home from their producer’s wedding because of the driver’s complaints about the behaviour of some of those on board.
However, no members of the band were arrested or charged by the authorities.
James Pirie, boss of Dundee-firm Nevis Coach Hire, was hired to pick the band up from Borthwick Castle, where Owen Morris was getting married, on Saturday night.
Morris has produced both of the Dryburgh band’s albums — Hats Off To The Buskers and Which Bitch? — as well as albums by Oasis and The Verve.
According to Mr Pirie, the band refused to behave on the minibus when he collected them in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“They had been at a wedding and if I’d known it was them I wouldn’t have taken the booking,” he said.
“I’ve driven them before and they are just a total nightmare.
“I picked them up and before I’d even turned the wheel I had phoned the police because of the way they were acting.
“They promised they would calm down but then it kicked off. I left four of them by the road because they had gone to use the toilet and were taking ages — smoking and messing around.
“Then one of them — I don’t know who it was — grabbed me round the throat and pulled on the handbrake.
“I managed to call the police again from my mobile so I knew they would be waiting for us.”
Mr Pirie said the police arrested one of party and that the handbrake cable was stretched when it was pulled as the bus was travelling.
“I will be sending the bill for the repair to Owen Morris,” he said.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police confirmed that the bus had been stopped at 2.20am on Sunday on the A8 Glasgow Road at the Gogar Roundabout.
He said, “A male was detained and was later released without charge.”
Band manager Grant Dickson, who was not with the band on Saturday, said he was unaware of any incident.
