Three of the best-known musicians in their field are to headline this year’s Dundee Jazz Festival.
Jazz fusionist Mike Stern is joined by French violinist Didier Lockwood for a concert at the West Park Centre on October 30 and French soul-jazz singer China Moses comes to the Caird Hall on November 13.
The festival also features the cream of Dundee’s jazz musicians at a new venue, the Post Office Bar in Broughty Ferry.
Mike Stern is one of the premier jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists of today.
His CV includes working with legends like Miles Davis and Michael Brecker as well as leading his own groups.
This is a rare club concert with his band of Alain Caron (bass) and Lionel Cordew (drums).
He brings with him special guest Didier Lockwood, whose electric experimentation was a feature in the progressive rock/jazz fusion 1970s band Magma.
In 1979, he released his first album as a band leader, New World, and has recorded more than 20 albums of his own since then.
China Moses made her Scottish debut at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in August and took the city by storm.
The Paris-based singer started as a presenter on MTV, before forging a career as a soul singer.
She recorded her first jazz album in 1996 and developed her project, a tribute to Dinah Washington, when she met her pianist collaborator, Raphael Lemonnier.
Meanwhile, the Post Office Bar hosts two local band concerts during the festival, one by Havana Swing on November 19, and a quintet outing for Gordon McNeil on November 26.
Tay Jazz at Perth also pays homage to Louis Armstrong-entitled We Love Louis featuring ex-Harry Connick sideman, trumpeter Leroy Jones, and American singer Barbara Morrison, which takes place at Perth Concert Hall on November 19.
They will perform all the favourite Satchmo tunes Hello Dolly, What A Wonderful World, Blueberry Hill, When The Saints Go Marching In and Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Dundee Jazz Festival is supported by the city council and Creative Scotland.
