Over the years Dundee heroes The Law have been well up for grafting up and down the country so the prospect of 13 gigs in 10 days didn’t faze them at all, even when it involved travelling to and then across the entire width of the United States.
Mind you, visiting John Lennon’s old haunts and fraternising with Marilyn Monroe (a waxwork model) in Hollywood meant there were some perks to be had.
They’ve just returned from their whirlwind trip to the world’s biggest showcase music festival, South By South West, where they took in venues in New York, LA, San Diego and Austin, Texas.
“The whole point of the trip was to build on the partnerships our management had started out in America,” Steve Anderson from The Law said.
“And I think we did that pretty well all the gigs were really well attended, we worked really hard and played loads of gigs, mainly to industry people.Brilliant”We did New York first that was brilliant. And then we were down in Austin for South By South West.
“It was great because although some of the PAs weren’t that brilliant we just worked hard and managed to get a decent sound at all the shows.
“In the past we would have been annoyed but when you’re working that hard you just get on with it. That sort of thing stands you in good stead.
“We really enjoyed it all, though, and when we went to Los Angeles some of the record company people who watched us in New York came to see us.Hectic”In between times we nipped down to San Diego for a radio show, so it was really hectic, but really amazing and well worthwhile.
“It’s all designed so we could meet up with all our record company’s contacts and be seen playing live by the people out there.
“We’re obviously hoping to get back out there soon to tour, we’ve got a year’s visa so we really want to try to get out there as soon as possible.”
