T in the Park has been crowned International Festival of the Year at the coveted Pollstar Awards in Los Angeles.

The Balado festival saw off competition from, among others, the UK’s V Festivals to grab the title, which recognises its status as one of the best events in the world and comes ahead of T in the Park’s 20th year.

The festival is the only one in the UK to have operated for 20 consecutive years, winning a plethora of awards over that time.

The event has also been recognised for its green efforts, having been given the Greener Festival Award on three occasions along with the Green’n’Clean Award at the Yourope (European Festival Association) Awards 2008.

More acts to join the headliners Mumford and Sons, Rihanna and the Killers will be revealed by organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager at their official launch next week.

Also appearing are Emeli Sand, the Script, Two Door Cinema Club, alt-J, Paloma Faith, Jake Bugg, Azealia Banks and Of Monsters and Men.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: “We were over the moon to have been nominated for such a prestigious award, so to win is amazing.

“This award is testament to the entire team who work tirelessly year round on T in the Park. We’ve grown from a small festival for 17,000 people to 85,000 music fans a day.”

The latest batch of tickets for this year’s festival go on sale on Friday February 22 at 9am and will be available at tinthepark.com.
