First impressions might hint towards hard rock rather than high brow, but a familiar face at Glamis Castle has been back on the bandwagon of promoting the landmark’s summer prom.
The open-air event is returning at the end of July after a break in 2010, and no one is more pleased to see it back on the calendar than Englishman Steve McLoughlin.
With a flowing beard which has earned him the nickname of ‘ZZ Top’ among Glamis staff, Steve worked alongside Prom founder John Reid for almost a decade, helping in the build-up to and staging of the event.
Mr Reid died in 2008 after 16 years at the helm, but Steve’s love affair with Glamis has seen him return from his West Bromwich home to help promote the July 30 concert.
Libby Reynolds of the castle’s marketing team said, “This is the 10th year Steve has been up to Glamis and he was out and about in the area promoting this summer’s prom.
“He and John Reid loved working together and I think he just wanted to come back and be involved when he heard the Prom was making a return this year.”
She added, “Our early bird ticket offer has encouraged a lot of people to book up early and make a saving and we are aiming for a crowd of 4000-5000.”
