Used to meeting the whims of diva performers, staff at Perth Concert Hall have taken the latest superstar demand in their stride.
Not for cult singer Morrissey the delights of rare lilies or all-white dressing rooms instead he has ordered the venue to take meat off the menu.
The popular restaurant at the Concert Hall has been given a stern warning to serve only vegetarian meals ahead of tonight’s sell-out gig by the former Smiths’ frontman.
Although most of the main courses on the Glassroom menu contain meat or fish, management have indicated they are more than willing to accommodate the request of the star performer, whose song Meat is Murder became the anthem of choice for vegetarians everywhere during the 1980s.
Director of marketing and communications Ben Jeffries said, “Morrissey has a life-long commitment to animal rights and vegetarianism, so understandably does not like the smell of cooking meat when preparing for, or indeed performing a gig.
“We are delighted to be welcoming this fantastic artist to Perth and, as with all our artists, Horsecross will do the best we can to make him feel right at home and comfortable here in Perth Concert Hall.”
The same demand has been issued to all venues Morrissey will play on his current tour.
There is no doubt that his request will be met as the staunch animal rights campaigner has previously stormed off stage, most famously at the Coachella Festival in 2009, after detecting the smell of “burning flesh”.
