The streets and pubs will be heaving again at the weekend for the third annual Montrose Music Festival.

While headliners The Proclaimers don’t actually play at the Town Hall until June 2 (providing Charlie’s voice is back to full working order), the main action takes place at pubs and venues across the town on Saturday and Sunday.

Dozens of bands, of all styles and genres, will be playing in tight corners throughout the weekend, creating what is a tremendous feelgood atmosphere.

It all kicks off on Friday night (May 28) with the return of last year’s heroes The Fortunate Sons for a charity gig at the town hall from 7pm.

Festival chairwoman Lynda Paton said, “We are delighted that we have attracted such a high calibre of performers to Montrose and we look forward to welcoming large audiences to all our venues where we can absorb the music and the atmosphere and have a lot of fun!

“It’s great to see so many new bands and old favourites taking part in the festival this year. We know that there will be a warm welcome for them and we’re all looking forward to some exhilarating and exciting live music and entertainment.”

Linda added, “The Fortunate Sons are back in Montrose to open the festival at the only ticketed event of the weekend. It looks set to be a fantastic gig with The Worry Beads supporting them.

“The gig is in aid of local lad Rhys Allan as part of the fundraising for his stem cell treatment in Germany.

“We’re hoping that the sun is going to shine on the third Montrose Music Festival as we welcome festival-goers from all over the UK.”

Among the other acts performing is Stonehaven-born singer Colin Clyne, who now lives and works in America.

He’s jetting across to promote his new album which is co-produced by another Scot, Alan Sanderson, who has worked with music legends including The Rolling Stones and Elton John.

Colin, who now lives in San Diego, has also arranged five dates in four venues including three of Scotland’s major cities to promote Doricana.

Colin plays The Black Horse from 8pm on Saturday night and The Neptune Bar at 4pm on Sunday.
