Extra 10,000 music fans invited to enjoy T in the Park

An extra 10,000 music fans will be able to enjoy next year’s T in the Park, councillors have agreed.

The licensing committee met in Perth to consider a request by DF Concerts to vary the terms of the public entertainment licence it holds for the event, which will take place from July 6 to 8 next year at Balado, Kinross.

In his report to the committee, the council’s head of legal services, Ian Innes, explained the background, saying: ”The licensee has submitted a request to vary the capacity of the event for the Friday (currently 75,000) by increasing the number of day tickets by 10,000.

”This would bring the overall capacity on the Friday in line with the capacity on Saturdays and Sundays of 85,000.”

In a letter to the committee, Colin Rodger, head of events for DF Concerts, said it believed changes to the site and a proven track record on traffic management made the request not unreasonable. The site redesign involved an extension of the arena into an area previously used as a campsite, extending camping into a former car park and relocating the ”slam tent”.

Councillors were persuaded by the arguments and granted the request, which was welcomed by DF Concerts. A spokesperson said the increase in numbers would mean it would be better placed to be able to attract top-name acts on the Friday night.

No acts have yet been announced for the Friday, although negotiations are now under way.
