The 80s are back! Rewind Festival returning to Scone Palace in July

The 80s are back! Rewind Festival returning to Scone Palace in July

It’s time to dust down your skintight dayglo lycra costumes, big shoulder pads and curly wigs the Rewind Festival will return to Scone Palace in July.

The organisers have announced an even better line-up for the live extravaganza of all things 80s, with headliners Ali Campbell’s UB40 and Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, along with Dundee/Perth heroes Average White Band.

Due to the outstanding success of the first Rewind Festival in Perth last summer, the creme de la creme of 80s artists have been clamouring for a spot this year.

Camp US stars Village People will be leading the audience participation in YMCA and In The Navy while the reformed Squeeze will provide one of the most eagerly awaited sets at the festival which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, with entertainment in the campsite from the Friday.

Other highlights include appearances from Scottish icons Midge Ure, Jimmy Somerville and Altered Images, as well as the reformed original line-up of Five Star, The Lightning Seeds, Marc Almond, Chesney Hawkes, Roland Gift, Right Said Fred and Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers.

Event director David Heartfield said: ”We’re delighted to be back at Scone this year and announcing the line-up again. Last year went fantastically well it’s a fun weekend, that’s the key to it, and it’s another fun line-up this year.”

As well as the massive line-up of 80s artists, the event features other festival fun from silent discos to live karaoke bars along with camping and glamping (glamorous camping) options.

Last year’s inaugural Rewind Scotland was a great success, with sunny weather and great crowds, many of whom dressed up in typically over-the-top fancy dress.

The organisers announced late last year they would return, which was warmly welcomed by palace administrator Elspeth Reid.

She said: ”We are absolutely thrilled that Rewind will be returning to Scone Palace in 2012. The event created overwhelmingly positive feedback. We are greatly looking forward to the return of Rewind.”

Lunched at Henley-on-Thames in 2009, Rewind boasts the biggest line-up of 1980s artists in the world.

In its first three years it featured such iconic names as Boy George, Tony Hadley, Rick Astley, Gloria Gaynor, Kim Wilde, ABC, Go West, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and many more.

The full line-up so far is: Ali Campbell’s UB40, Average White Band, Holly Johnson, Village People, Jimmy Somerville, Squeeze, Midge Ure, The Lightning Seeds, Five Star, Go West, Sinitta, Marc Almond, ABC, Roland Gift, Chesney Hawkes, The Straits, Katrina ex Katrina and The Waves, Wang Chung, Limahl, John Parr, Right Said Fred, Altered Images, Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers and The Christians.

Perth and Kinross Council enterprise and infrastructure convener Councillor John Kellas said: ”Last year’s event was held in glorious sunshine and was a spectacular success. Scone Palace is an amazing setting for a music festival, and I’m sure that this year’s event will be equally as impressive.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am on Thursday. Full details are at rewindfestival.com.
