Dundee College make-up students have been going from glamorous to ghoulish thanks to a crash course in special effects make-up.
Those on the HNC fashion make-up course swapped blusher for fake blood and foundation for fiendishly clever flesh wounds during three “Zombie” workshops in the run-up to Hallowe’en.
Leigh Butler hosted the classes and showed those taking part how to create a distinctly undead look. The 21-year-old was very impressed with the way the students took to the ghastly goings-on.
He said, “They all loved it and the girls all loved making each other up and running around. Some of the work that the girls have done is outstanding, even better than I had expected from girls who had only just started working with make-up.”
Leigh was making a return appearance to the college, having first been bitten by the make-up bug while studying NQ performance arts five years ago.
Since then, the former Harris Academy pupil has pursued his craft in FX make-up and has twice won gold in the Prosthetic Make-Up category of the annual Hair and Beauty Awards for the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists.
Dundee resident Leigh spent the summer working in Glasgow as chief make-up artist and designer on a science fiction film project. He has designs on a place on a training programme under industry legend Dick Smith, whose work on films such as The Exorcist and The Godfather raised the standard of prosthetics in film and television.
“Leigh’s demonstrations have offered our HNC make-up students a fantastic insight into the diverse career possibilities that their training offers,” said Pam Imrie, hairdressing and beauty therapy curriculum manager.
