A play by Mike Gibb whose works include the Dundee-themed trilogy Mother of all the Peoples, Five Pound & Twa Bairns and Sunday Mornings On Dundee Law will come to Dundee Rep on January 28.
Doorways In Drumorty is adapted from a book of short stories by Aberdeenshire woman Lorna Moon, a top Hollywood screenwriter in the 1920s.
The new play centres on Jessie MacLean, a strong-willed spinster who provides refuge to a pregnant 16-year-old.
Though largely a comedy, Doorways in Drumorty contains moments of tragedy.
Mike said, “I began work on a stage adaptation but got side-tracked halfway through and condemned it to the computer version of the bottom drawer.
“Only when RedRag Theatre Company mentioned that they were looking for a new project, preferably set in the north-east… did I dust it down and finish it off.”
