Perthshire Chamber of Commerce is to launch a new programme which will help take businesses through the recovery process from the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Recovery and Resilience programme will include contributors from key sectors, and large and small businesses across urban and rural Perthshire.
It will be focused on new opportunities, ideas generation and strategic planning to help the region’s businesses transition to the new normal as the country examines how to move out of the current Covid-19 lockdown.
The programme is being supported by businesses across many sectors
Chamber president Stephen Leckie said: “Our Recovery and Resilience Programme is designed to pool our collective experience, share the new skills we have learned and provide a platform to identify new ideas.
“It is going to be a very different landscape moving forward in many ways, so it is vital we start planning now.
“But even out of the human tragedy and crisis of coronavirus, there will be opportunities ahead to reboot our communities and our regional economy.”
The initiative was backed by David Littlejohn, head of planning and development at Perth and Kinross Council.
He said: “Economic recovery will require the entire enterprise network to work together to support our businesses through these incredibly challenging times. Perthshire Chamber of Commerce is a key partner in the Covid-19 Business Task Force set up by the council and this initiative is particularly welcome.”
Dr Liz Cameron, chief executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said: “This is exactly what businesses need to help us navigate our return to work focus.
“We need the support of government to make sure the infrastructure is there, and our employees and communities to work together to ensure both our wellbeing and livelihoods.”
John Swinney, Perthshire North MSP, added: “This is a significant offer of support to local businesses, and I am pleased to see such proactive and meaningful steps being taken by the Perthshire Chamber
“I am sure that this programme will provide valuable assistance to local businesses, and that it will be welcomed across the community.”
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser added: “The fact this initiative will include contributors from key sectors, and large and small businesses across urban and rural Perthshire will be of great benefit.
“I must praise the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce for coming up with this programme.”
