The industry body representing digital developers and publishers has called for a new Scottish games fund to be set up.
TIGA chief executive Dr Richard Wilson said too many studios and individual developers were seeing their business growth curtailed by difficulties in obtaining funding and their products being lost in a digital ocean.
Dr Wilson said the introduction of a new games fund and an associated growth accelerator programe would give a huge shot in the arm to the industry.
“The video games sector in Scotland is a success story with significant potential,” Dr Wilson said.
“It is exactly the kind of industry that policy makers should be supporting: it is R&D intensive, provides high skilled employment and is export focused.
“Yet too many studios face difficulty accessing finance, the industry suffers from some specific skills shortages and discoverability of games is a major challenge.”
The proposals come in TIGA’s nine-point manifesto for the Scottish games sector – a document that has received the backing of high-profile Dundee games industry figures.
Kobojo UK studio director Chris Stamp said: “Scotland has a wealth of creative and technical talent in the games sector which, although already punching above its weight globally, is still far from fulfilling its full potential.”
David Hamilton of Ninja Kiwi Europe, added: “The games industry in Scotland has been a huge success and the introduction of a Scottish Video Games Fund will ensure success going forward.”
