He’s a star of stage and screen and now Gyles Brandreth is to make a repeat performance as host of the 2016 Courier Business Awards.
The One Show favourite said he was looking forward to a return trip north for the awards ceremony at Dundee’s Apex City Quay Hotel on October 29.
His razor tongue and bottomless well of stories – including his time as Lord Commissioner of the Treasury in Sir John Major’s Government – had the audience in raptures at the inaugural Courier Business Awards in 2013.
The 700 guests expected at the 2016 event – which is again being held in association with chartered accountants Henderson Loggie – can expect a similar barnstorming performance as Gyles returns to one of his favourite places.
“Dundee works on all sorts of levels for me,” Gyles told The Courier.
“From Dennis the Menace to the architecture and the heritage, I love it.
“It is not just modern Dundee, it is a city that has a lot of time for yesterday and that is a winning combination.”
As a huge fan, Gyles did not need to be persuaded to act as host for this year’s Courier Business Awards.
“At the Business Awards, everyone has a different and extraordinary story to tell,” he said.
“In 2013 there were some quite large businesses involved, but there were also some owner-driven businesses.
“You had couples working together where one was out selling and the other was doing the VAT returns – that’s fascinating to me.
“I look forward to seeing what this year’s awards bring.”
