Vets Now is launching a Christmas recruitment drive for its Dunfermline contact centre. Gayle Ritchie finds out more

Vets Now, the leading provider of out-of-hours emergency veterinary care for pets, is planning a major recruitment drive to cope over the festive period.

It’s the busiest time of the year for pet emergencies, with call volumes going up by as much as 40%.

The most common mishaps involve pets eating dangerous items, from baubles and tinsel to chocolates left under the tree.

Vets Now is looking to recruit temporary call handlers to work in its Dunfermline contact centre to support its team of 55 permanent staff.

Head of client services Lisa Maxwell said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year and we need to be well prepared and well-staffed.

“That’s why we’re recruiting now for call handlers with great communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

“It’s vital that distressed pet owners get the best possible service right from the moment they pick up the phone to us.”

More than 1,000 veterinary practices across the UK use Vets Now to provide their clients with a seamless out-of-hours emergency care service.

The contact centre handles around 250,000 calls a year, the majority of which come from pet owners needing reassurance at the weekend or in the evening when their vet is closed.

It connects with the clinic network through a centralised booking system, providing those clinics with a visibility of all emergency cases allocated to them.

Temporary positions across a variety of shifts will be available between November 14 and will finish on January 16.

Vets Now is holding recruitment open days at its support centre in Dunfermline on October 22 between 1pm and 8pm and on Tuesday, October 25, from 5pm to 9pm.

Anyone interested in applying for a call handling role is encouraged to attend.

Vets Now also has a year-round drive to recruit vets, vet nurses and other staff into its support office, 53 clinics and three hospitals across the UK.
