A new holiday park is to be built in Perthshire after an 80-acre site was acquired by Verdant Leisure.

The company is pledging a £10 million investment in the site between Stanley and Luncarty.

It has planning permission for nearly 300 holiday homes across a site almost half the size of nearby Stanley.

The firm behind the plans wants to create a five-star holiday park.

Work on the new park, which will be called River Tay Leisure Park, will begin in March.

The first phase of the development will see 77 pitches created alongside a bar and restaurant on the former Gowrie Quarry.

The new holiday park is due to open next year.

A ‘very exciting’ deal for Verdant Leisure

Chief executive Graham Hodgson said it was a “very exciting” acquisition for Verdant Leisure.

Mr Hodgson said: “Perthshire is a beautiful region. It is easy to understand why it is so popular with our existing customers.

“We are thrilled to be able to develop this former quarry into a five-star holiday park and further support tourism in Perthshire.

“We are sure that River Tay Leisure Park will become a destination of choice in the area.”

‘Fantastic local attractions’ at new holiday park

The developer, in partnership with Cycling Scotland, will support the creation of a travel path.

The path will pass through River Tay Leisure Park between Stanley and Luncarty.

On the Verdant Leisure website, a page created for the soon-to-open park says it has “miles of beautiful walking routes” and “fantastic local area attractions”.

It adds River Tay Leisure Park is “sure to become a destination of choice” for holiday home owners and holiday makers.

Verdant Leisure will begin work at the holiday park in Perthshire next month.

Verdant Leisure was set up in September 2010 following a management buy-in of Dunham Leisure Limited, owners of Pease Bay and Thurston Manor Leisure parks in south east Scotland.

The group also runs Erigmore Leisure Park near Birnam.

In December 2021, the company received the backing of Pears Partnership Capital.

Verdant Leisure now operates over 4,500 pitches of privately owned holiday homes, luxury holiday accommodation to hire, touring and glamping.

Accommodation in its portfolio is available for travel agents to book via Hoseasons.
