Energy firm SSEN Transmission is planning to spend £17 million creating a giant warehouse in Dundee.
Plans submitted to Dundee City Council show the building will sit on a 9.34 acre site at the Claverhouse East Industrial Park, off Jack Martin Way.
Covering an area of 7,817 square metres, the new building would be a fraction under the 8,000 sqm footprint of V&A Dundee.
SSEN Transmission owns, operates and develops the high voltage electricity transmission system in the north of Scotland and remote islands.
It plans to store equipment, infrastructure and materials in the warehouse in order to support the construction and maintenance of the transmission network.
It recently announced plans to create 150 new jobs in Perth and build a £15 million office block in the city.
SSEN Dundee warehouse jobs
A spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said: “The new operations warehouse will provide us with state of the art facilities to help us with the drive towards delivering a network for net zero.
If the planning application is successful, work on the warehouse is expected to begin in early 2023.
The expected completion date is late 2024.
The new development follows SSEN Transmission’s announcement last month of plans to create 400 new jobs across the north of Scotland.
SSEN Transmission said the Dundee investment would only account for a small number of these jobs.
“Around half of these new roles will be based in Tayside and most of the new jobs will be based in our head office in Perth,” the firm said.
“We expect there will be some operational opportunities at our existing depots in Tealing and Carolina Port in Dundee, as well as a small number at our future new operations warehouse development in Claverhouse.
“The construction of the warehouse will also support local jobs and the local economy.”
