Dundee-based publishing group DC Thomson & Co Ltd delivered an increase in revenue at £275.4 million last year.
Chairman Andrew F Thomson said the year to March 2016 saw stability in publishing revenues with full year contributions from Shortlist Media Ltd and Wild and Wolf Ltd.
These developments led to increases in turnover but also in costs of sales and for the 2000 staff across the group.
Group pre-tax profit for the year to March 31 was lower at £24.2m for the publisher of The Courier and The Evening Telegraph in Dundee, The Press and Journal and The Evening Express in Aberdeen and The Sunday Post.
Mr Thomson continued: “Our newspaper and magazine businesses continue to perform well in the current market.
“Despite newspaper advertising declines, profitability was ahead of last year.
“Progress is being made to supplement declining advertising revenues with new lines of business in the digital and events business as well as launching both generic and licensed titles.”
Shortlist Media, publisher of Shortlist and Stylist free magazines along with associated websites, was building on its range of free titles with a new annual fashion event, the first of which was held last year.
It continues with strong print revenues and developing new lines of business by enhancing digital products and events.
Mr Thomson said turnover in the book division with Parragon was stable and there was good growth in the gifting business.
DC Thomson invested heavily in opening new markets for its most recent acquisition, Wild & Wolf, which creates quality gifting products, in many cases using well-known brand names under licence.
Investments were made in the US in particular with the opening of a new office, the signing of new licenses and the expansion of the Hong Kong sourcing infrastructure.
The genealogy business had been stable, and significant investment continues to improve the customer experience and investigate potential growth in the US and Australia.
The data hosting business involving brightsolid was growing its customer base, and the new data centre in Aberdeen had significantly increased the data hosting capacity.
In Dundee the renovation of the Meadowside headquarters is nearing completion and is set to be ready in the spring.
