After Dundee construction firm McGill entered administration its ongoing contracts have ground to a halt.
More than 60 staff were told their jobs would be lost at a lunchtime meeting last week.
Local councils, housing associations and universities with McGill contracts now need to find other ways to get work completed.
We approached them to comment on the state of their projects.
Angus, Castlehill, Langstane and Osprey Housing Associations
McGill was awarded a four-year £11m contract in August 2021 with Angus, Castlehill, Langstane and Osprey housing associations to complete kitchen and bathroom replacement works.
The associations did not responded to The Courier’s request for comment.
Dundee City Council
In May this year, McGill announced the firm was set to renew its long-standing relationship with Dundee City Council with a contract to install wireless fire alarms in council properties.
However, a Dundee City Council spokesperson denied this was in place.
The firm was also appointed to carry out electrical upgrade works at Caird Hall in April.
The council has not said whether or not the work has been completed.
Falkirk Council
In March, McGill won a second contract with Falkirk Council valued at £2.6m to repair 500 void properties.
The council’s housing division said: “126 void properties were completed by McGill as part of the contract.
“Those 126 void properties have been returned to the local housing offices and have been allocated to incoming tenants.
“All other outstanding repairs to the void properties have been carried out by Falkirk Council’s building maintenance division and additional service providers.”
Fife Council
Fife Council said it currently has two contracts with McGill.
One is for wardens call equipment maintenance and the other an electrical package for Methil Care Village.
Head of revenue and commercial services Les Robertson said: “We’re aware of the situation with McGill and will review how the news impacts the two contracts we have with them.”
Govanhill Housing Association
McGill secured a £1.4m contract with Govanhill Housing Association in February 2021 to deliver a range of services including slating, tiling, fire and security, TV installation, landscaping and stonework.
Govanhill Housing Association chair Annie Macfarlane said: “At the association, we are aware of the situation and are working hard to mitigate any potential impacts this will have on our ongoing work.
“Principally this involves continuous communication with any tenants or residents affected by the situation and putting in place the plans needed to complete any outstanding work.”
Oak Tree Housing Association
McGill was awarded a three to five-year maintenance contract with Oak Tree Housing Association in October 2021 valued at around £800,000 per year.
The housing association has not responded to The Courier’s request for comment.
Paisley Housing Association
In November 2021, McGill won a £1.1m contract to carry out work in more than 400 homes over two years for Paisley Housing Association.
The housing association has not responded to The Courier’s request for comment.
St Andrews University
St Andrews University appointed McGill to carry out a complex refurbishment at a category B-listed building on campus in June.
The project was valued at around £120,000. It included upgrading the water systems, reinstatement of new ceilings, safe removal of asbestos and decorating.
A university spokesperson said: “The university appointed another contactor to complete works previously undertaken by McGill to ensure these were completed on time as required ahead of the new semester starting.”
