After six and a half years of working as a vet, 28-year-old Hannah McKerrow has opened her own Fife practice.
With her husband Bruce, the pair opened 3 Bridges Vets in Dunfermline last month.
In new purpose-built facilities, Hannah provides services for all animals, from cats to cows.
She says: “It’s exciting to be open and see clients coming through the doors instead of tradesmen.
“The vet industry has changed quite a lot recently, so I wanted to have a different practice and working environment.
“It’s great to be doing it for myself instead of someone else and we thought it’s now or never.
“We care for all species, we’ve had a miniature donkey in reception already.
“There’s always a bit of variety and you never know what’s coming through the door next.”
Growth plans for 3 Bridges Vets
The Fordell Firs practice boasts separate dog and cat waiting rooms, two consulting rooms, a laboratory and a custom-built large animal facility for farm animals.
3 Bridges Vets has been designed using ideas from practices Hannah has worked at in the past.
Alongside vet Simon Ward, she also offers farm visits and they cover their own out-of-hours service.
The keen sheep vet says covering all emergencies themselves is vital to the practice.
“I know how much clients value seeing their own vet in an emergency situation, and I want us to have that continuity of care for our patients,” she says.
“Our client base is expanding at the moment, so we would like to grow but still maintain the personal touch.
“A lot of clients want that continuity of care and to be able to get a relationship with their vet.
“It’s certainly important that we maintain that despite any future growth.”
