Perth housing development Bertha Park has been described as an “extraordinary success” by judges as it won a top housebuilding award.
The village development by Springfield Properties, to the north of Perth, will consist of 3,000 homes when complete.
It has a lake, children’s play park and a high school with a primary school and community orchard to follow.
The flagship development won the best sustainable development category at the WhatHouse awards.
The judges said: “Springfield has used air source heat pump technology in its homes, which are built of timber frame, while electric vehicle charging is standard in all the housebuilder’s developments.
“Sustainability is about more than energy efficiency, with a focus on social impact and a community engagement coordinator ensures regular interaction with residents.
“Springfield also pioneered the introduction of waste plastic in the construction of its roads and is focused on renewable heating solutions.”
Commercial units will become available for shops, restaurants, medical, leisure and community use as the village grows.
Dykes of Gray award
Meanwhile Springfield’s Dundee housing development Dykes of Gray was recognised in the best public realm category.
The judges praised Springfield for its commitment to delivering sustainable and high-quality places for people to call home.
The masterplan prioritises open spaces and tree lined streets, encouraging exercise and biodiversity.
Springfield chief executive Innes Smith said: “We’re understandably delighted to have our Springfield villages recognised at such a respected event.
“With steep competition from across the UK to win these awards is an enormous achievement.
“Sustainability is a hot topic at present, and it has been a focus for us at Springfield for some time.
“We endeavour to create sustainable places for people to live, deliver energy efficient homes that are cost effective to run, engage with the communities to enhance our social impact while regularly reviewing our internal practices to mitigate our own impact on the environment.
“To have had our efforts recognised with two awards with competition from housebuilders across the UK is an astounding recognition.”
Held in London, The WhatHouse? Awards celebrates the homebuilding industry. This year Berkeley won the top prize of Housebuilder of the Year.
