These toilets within an Angus restaurant are a work of art and now they’ve received national recognition.
Angus Grill & Larder commissioned three local artists to decorate its toilets on the themes of Brechin, Arbroath and Forfar.
The colourful displays have delighted customers since the eatery, located three miles south of Brechin, opened in January.
Now Angus Grill & Larder has cleaned up by winning a top toilet award.
Inspectors from the Loo of the Year awards were bowled over.
They gave the beautiful bathrooms their top platinum status after checking them against more than 100 criteria.
Tribute to Angus towns
Owner Will MacPherson said the significance of the win can not be pooh-poohed.
He said: “We commissioned artists to do work themed around the three towns.
“Louise Kirby did the Forfar toilet, Pamela Scott did Brechin and Laura Darling painted Arbroath.
“We want people to walk in and say wow.
“As well as looking great we use good quality toilet paper instead of the cheapest rolls. We also supply sanitary products, deodorants, nappies and nappy bags.
“Customers consistently tell us how great the bathrooms are so we applied to the awards.
“It was an unannounced spot check by the inspectors. Achieving the diamond grade lets us be entered to the overall awards in January.”
Angus toilet artist’s strangest commission
Artist Louise Kirby said the bathrooms were the most unusual place she’d ever been asked to paint.
She said: “Angus Grill & Larder gave us creative freedom to create designs around the three towns.
“My bathroom is called Fields of Forfar and is my colourful take on the area of Forfar featuring local produce, fields of pattern and Balmarshanner Monument.
“It was great to paint with the other artists and I love how our designs are so different.”
A spokesperson from the Loo of the Year awards said Angus Grill & Larder’s toilets are stunning.
“The diamond grade is the highest that we award,” she said.
“The ‘away from home’ washroom facilities have to be of an excellent high standard with that little extra on offer. Angus Grill & Larder offer this with their washrooms.”
The Loo of the Year awards also has silver and gold classifications. It has also recognised toilets at
