A Meggi Lashes beauty product vending machine at the Overgate Shopping Centre in Dundee has had a “phenomenal” response.
The Liverpool-registered company is owned by 23-year-old Meggi Morgan – with the Dundee machine the 24th installed across the UK.
Despite being almost eight months pregnant she made the five-hour journey to personally oversee its installation on Sunday.
The bright pink machine, located on the first floor of the shopping centre, features a wide range of budget beauty products including eyelashes, lip gloss and mascara.
She left a free £5 mystery cosmetics bag in the bottom of the machine for her first customer.
A million social media followers
Meggi has a huge online following, particularly among young women. She has more than 830,000 followers on TikTok alone and more than a million across her social media channels.
The business, which was started in 2020 with a £300 investment, also has a pink customised van which tours the UK.
Meggi says: “Our business focuses on eyelashes, make-up and cosmetics, but along with that we want to give confidence to people and make them feel good about themselves.”
The Dundee machine, located near Starbucks, has already proved a huge hit with customers with some products already sold out.
Overgate boss admires Meggi Lashes
Malcolm Angus, centre manager at Overgate, said: “Over the years the centre has been proud to support the country’s most innovative emerging brands by providing accessibility to prime location space and exposure to a high consumer footfall.
“Meggi Lashes is a particularly unique retail model.
“It is a fantastic example of how, by combining desirable products at an affordable price along with fleet-footed business acumen, an on-point social media presence, and quirky, imaginative marketing, it is possible for a start-up to create scale and commercial success.
“The excitement around Meggi’s vending machine arriving in Overgate has been phenomenal.
“The bright pink Meggi Lashes vending machine can be found on the upper mall between Toytown and Select.”
Meggi hopes to have 50 machines installed by the end of this year in all major cities.
She said the Dundee machine was a “great way to start 2023” for her business.
