A former ‘flagship’ bank building in Dundee will become the new offices of a legal firm as it expands its presence in the city.
Gilson Gray will move to the building at West Marketgait, which has been empty since the bank branch was closed in 2019.
In 2018, more than 250 jobs were axed at the Bank of Scotland call centre in the same West Marketgait building.
Gilson Gray will move from the South Tay Street offices it opened in 2020. It will bring together multiple teams across the 4,500 sq ft offices.
It follows a period of rapid growth for the legal firm, which acquired rival Baillie Shepherd in October 2021.
Legal firm’s offices a ‘statement of intent’
Gilson Gray said its new offices represents a “massive statement of intent”.
Since it first arrived in the city, Gilson Gray has grown its headcount and built its client base.
The firm also expanded into England last year, with the acquisition of Lincoln-based Home Property Lawyers.
Lindsay Darroch, partner and head of Gilson Gray’s Dundee office, said: “Our investment in a new state-of-the-art office follows a period of immense growth for the firm in Dundee.
“It will further place the Gilson Gray name at the heart of the local community. We are very excited about the future of the city.
“The speed of our expansion in the city so far has exceeded expectations.
“Our new base will accommodate a growing team from a location that will never date.”
Dundee ‘an exciting place to be’
Mr Darroch said he hopes the move will allow Gilson Gray to continue with its momentum.
He said the firm was well placed to help clients maximise opportunities from the continued growth in the city.
“We expect clients will notice the impact as they benefit from the full range of services we can provide under the same roof,” Mr Darroch said.
“We hope to continue to build on the momentum seen over the past two years, with our new central location underpinning our position in the Dundee market.
“Dundee has been through significant transformation in recent years and continues to change.
“The city is an exciting place to be, with initiatives such as the Eden Project creating jobs and generating measurable economic impact.
“There is a real buzz about Dundee and the wider region.
“We are well placed to support clients and businesses with the opportunities that brings.”
As well as its Dundee office, Gilson Gray also has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and East Lothian.
