Trike tours heading for Dundee after bumper first year

Rewaco Trikes are heading for Dundee after approval of special events license.
Rewaco Trikes are heading for Dundee after approval of special events license.

A couple who set up Scotland’s only trike dealership in Angus are now preparing to offer tours in Dundee.

Gordon Carr and Ellie Whitehead set up Rewaco Trikes last April just outside Brechin.

The business specialises in selling trikes – best described as a motorbike with three wheels – and also offers tours of the Angus area.

As the first anniversary of the business approaches, Rewaco is now looking to expand into Dundee.

Dundee trike tour plans

The business, which operates from Montrose Road, has a licence to provide tours and provide a pick up service in Dundee.

It has invested in a second touring bike as part of its growth plans.

Gordon said: “The trike community is growing in Scotland.

Gordon and Ellie can now offer Dundee in addition to Angus on their trike tours.

“Some taxi drivers from Dundee who come into the cafe gave us advice to apply to Dundee council for a special events license.

“We can now provide trikes for weddings or proms.

“We are also hoping to attract visitors to Dundee from cruise ships.”

Each trike can collect two guests at a time with a tour guide accompanying them.

With some beautiful sights in and around Dundee the new venture is sure to increase the interest in trikes in Tayside.

Rewaco Trikes

The Angus pair established Rewaco Trikes when they were unable to purchase their own trike in Scotland.

After spotting a gap in the market and setting up shop the couple were amazed with the success they have seen after year one.

Gordon said: “We had pretty low expectations going into it, breaking into a market that we were unsure of. But we knew it was big down south, so we just went for it.

“We ended up selling 25 trikes in the first season which is far beyond what we expected.”

Following the immediate success the couple decided to purchase the premises late last year.

Gordan and Ellie of Rewaco Trikes
Gordon and Ellie are amazed with the success their first season in triking has brought and are excited for 2023.

They are currently renovating the first floor to turn it into a habitable space which saw significant structural change to the showroom also.

The snack bar has been a huge success too, with monthly events held for members of the motoring community.

Gordon said: “We hold events once a month for trikers and bikers on the first Sunday of the month. We will resume these in April.

“At each event we choose a charity and then do a collection and raise funds during that month for that unique charity,” added Ellie.

Stars of the small screen

The Angus-based business can now also take larger groups out given the addition of the new trike.

With trips up to the Cairn O’Mount a particular highlight for many.

“It’s even still enjoyable for me – I love it.

“It really is very different to driving in a car, you get exposed to the whole atmosphere of the open air.”

The growing popularity of triking in Scotland was evident when the couple were asked to feature on BBC Alba programme Mach a Seo.

The episode saw Gordon take presenter Ramsay MacMahon from Bodden, round the Montrose Basin and onto the Davidson Legacy Cottage.
