A historic Perth golf course could be reduced to nine holes to make way for 200 houses.
Last October plans to half the size of the existing 18-hole Craigie Hill Golf Club course were outlined.
Now, a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) has been lodged with Perth and Kinross Council.
The plans propose the reconfiguration of the golf club from 18 to nine holes to make way for around 200 homes, subject to planning consent.
The documents also outline plans for the redevelopment of the clubhouse into a new hub.
Perth club’s financial security behind plans
Transition committee spokesman David Mitchell said the move to a nine-hole course was for financial stability.
He said the club, formed in 1911, is suffering losses year-on-year. Without change, Mr Mitchell warned it will not survive.
He said: “The PAN is an important milestone in our vision to ensure golf continues to be played at Craigie Hill long into the future, while creating a broader lasting leisure legacy
“We are seeking to ensure the long-term future of the club and also enhance the wider sporting and community interests.
“From the outset we have stressed the importance of securing enthusiastic and wide-ranging support for the project from the people of Perth and other stakeholders.
“With that in mind, public consultation was always going to play a key role in the planning process.
“We have already engaged with political representatives at all levels, adjacent landowners and residents, community groups and national sporting agencies.”
‘Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’
Mr Mitchell said creating a sporting hub that will be shaped by the community has been supported by Scottish Golf.
He said the plans represent a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to reinvigorate the local area.
“We are keen to secure the future of the golf club for our local membership by embracing the trend towards nine-hole courses. .
“We believe this project presents an opportunity to enhance the sporting offer in Perth. and secure the heritage of Craigie Hill for all,” said Mr Mitchell.
The first drop-in consultation event will take place at the Craigie Hill clubhouse on April 20 between 2 and 8pm. A second will run on April 23 from 1 to 4pm.
Timeline for Perth golf club plans
Last year, the club secured Community Amateur Sports Club status, establishing it as a not-for-profit business.
The transition committee is confident they will tee off on breaking ground on the project in 2025.
Tayside civil engineering firm Kilmac is working with the golf club to progress the development.
