Dundee legal firm Lindsays has added more than 50 staff to its team by merging with another Tayside-based business.

The firm has merged with Miller Hendry, which has offices in Dundee, Perth and Crieff.

The deal is Lindsays’ biggest merger to date. It is part of a programme of expansion which has included significant growth in Tayside.

The merger, which will take effect on May 30, will see Miller Hendry partners and staff transfer to Lindsays.

The enlarged Dundee firm will also add the Miller Hendry offices on Perth’s Blackfriars Street and Comrie Street in Crieff to its portfolio. Lindsays also has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Lindsays ‘delighted’ to continue growth through merger

The merged firm, which will be branded as Lindsays, is also exploring further growth opportunities, including in the Perth area.

Miller Hendry, which comprises seven partners and about 50 staff, provides services including private client, family law, dispute resolution, commercial, rural and residential conveyancing.

The firm also has a busy estate agency team covering Tayside and the surrounds.

Alasdair Cummings, Lindsays’ managing partner, said the firm was delighted to expand and work across four cities.

He said: “It’s a pleasure to welcome the team from Miller Hendry to the Lindsays family.

“We’re delighted to continue our growth through this merger.

“There are real synergies between Lindsays and Miller Hendry, which we see bringing significant benefit to clients and our people.

“Throughout our long history, we have adapted and evolved while remaining true to our core ethos – to provide expert, accessible and reliable lawyers supporting people with their personal, family and business affairs.

“The ethos at Miller Hendry chimes perfectly with that.”

Lindsays ‘a perfect fit’ for Miller Hendry

The latest chapter in Lindsays’ expansion follows similar mergers with Shield & Kyd and MacLachlan & MacKenzie in 2012, RSB Macdonald in 2015, Aitken Nairn in 2018 and Hadden Rankin in 2019.

Miller Hendry staff currently based in Dundee will join those at Lindsays’ offices at Seabraes. Others will remain at their current location.

The enlarged Lindsays firm will comprise almost 50 partners and 300 staff.

Miller Hendry chairman John Thom said: “Lindsays has a well-earned strong reputation, which was important to us in reaching this agreement.

“It is the perfect fit for our clients, who will benefit from a wider range of legal services.

“Our staff will also be able to take advantage of broader career options, while remaining part of a firm which retains a family feel among its team.”

Miller Hendry (Asset Management) Ltd is not subject to the merger and will operate as a separate standalone business.
