Only a handful of Dundee hotel rooms are available when Radio 1’s Big Weekend visits the city later this year.

Thousands of people will flock to Dundee’s Camperdown Park as Lewis Capaldi, The 1975 and Niall Horan perform at the Radio 1 event.

A previous investigation into hotel prices for the event, between May 26 and 28, showed some hotel prices had doubled from the weekend before.

A total of 35,000 tickets for each of the Saturday and Sunday went on sale on Friday morning.

Half of those were reserved for people living in the DD1 to DD11 postcodes. They have now sold out.

A further 15,000 tickets for the Friday night – which will feature dance acts – will go on sale next Friday (March 31) at 6.30pm.

With thousands of people set to descend on Dundee, most hotel rooms are sold out.

Prices for the remaining rooms have increased further.

Dundee hotel price rises

We analysed the price of a two-night stay at eight Dundee hotels.

Two of the eight, Invercarse Hotel and Hotel Indigo, have no rooms available.

Premier Inn has no availability in its hotels in Dundee centre, Dundee north, Dundee west, Dundee east and Monifieth.

Its hotels in St Andrews and Perth are also sold out for the weekend of May 26-28.

There are Premier Inn hotels available in Fife – a two-night stay in Glenrothes is available for £257 and in Dunfermline for £310.

The firm previously defended its hike in room rates, saying it firm operated “dynamic pricing”.

Travelodge, which said it offers “competitive” prices – has further increased the price of its Dundee city centre hotel.

A twin room there was previously available for £459 for the weekend, but is now £499.

Rates have similarly increased at Sleeperz Hotel – where a room is now £451.

Some rooms are available at Dundee’s Sleeperz Hotel.

When it was announced Dundee would host Radio 1’s Big Weekend, a twin room at Apex City Quay Hotel was available for £199 for two nights.

However, early on Friday morning an equivalent stay was £558. Its website now shows the hotel is full.

Majority of Dundee rooms sold out

On Booking.com, the majority of Dundee hotel rooms are sold out.

It states 97% of accommodation in the city has already been snapped up for the Big Weekend.

Jolly’s Hotel in Broughty Ferry, run by JD Wetherspoon, is available for £510.

Staybridge Suites are showing some availability, with a studio suite costing nearly £480.

The cheapest available option is a room in the city centre, where a bed in a four-bed mixed dormitory room is £92.

However a private single room is more than twice that price, at £230 for the weekend.
