Gyles Brandreth takes charge at the 2016 Courier Business Awards. He is to return for 2017.

By popular demand, Gyles Brandreth is returning as host of the Courier Business Awards 2017.

Courier editor Richard Neville said the high-profile broadcaster and author’s entertaining mix of chat and repartee proved such a hit with the crowds at the 2016 awards that he simply had to return.

“It was an easy decision to invite Gyles back again this year,” Mr Neville said.

“He loves Courier Country and it was clear the guests at the Business Awards prizewinning dinner last year loved him.

“Gyles’ enthusiasm and incredible wit is a winning combination and we look forward to welcoming him back to Dundee later this year for our fifth annual business awards.”

Gyles said he couldn’t wait to get back to Scotland for the awards ceremony and quipped that Dundee cake had become a dietary staple since the 2016 event.

“Dundee here I come,” the One Show reporter declared.

“The last time I was in Dundee was just after Brexit and what I think is interesting is that business continues.

“Whatever the view, business rises above it and continues to do good business.

“Business continues almost regardless of politics.”

The deadline for entries for the 2017 awards scheme closes at the end of this month and the entertainer and polymath urged as many companies as possible to get involved.
