A Scottish hotels group that runs one of Perth’s best known country playgrounds has been bought out by a German-based operator in a multi-million pound deal.
Leonardo Hotels has moved to increase its presence in the UK by snapping up the Portland Hotels group for an undisclosed sum.
Portland run a total of five Scottish properties including the Huntingower country house hotel on the outskirts of Perth.
The move adds a total of 536 bedrooms to Leonardo’s existing UK estate, taking its bed numbers to more than 1,000 at a stroke.
Daniel Roger, managing director of Leonardo Hotels Europe, said: “When we entered the market in the UK two years ago, we made it our goal to further expand our portfolio and strengthen the name recognition of the Leonardo Hotels brand.
“The purchase of Portland Hotels underscores this.”
Kerr Young, of JLL’s Hotels and Hospitality Group which advised on the deal, said: “Portland Hotels presented an opportunity to acquire quality assets in strategic locations across Scotland and we are delighted to have advised Leonardo on their successful acquisition.”
