Dundee tachograph firm Stoneridge Electronics is planning to transfer its production and logistics operations to another European site.
The company would not confirm how many jobs are under threat as a result of the move or the timescale of the changes.
The Dundee operation, which can trace its roots in the city back 70 years, currently employs around 60 staff with the main focus being on providing customer support and developing software to analyse drivers’ performance.
Well-known businesswoman Amanda Robertson, who headed the aftermarket division in Dundee, left Stoneridge Electronics at the weekend after a 17-year career with the company.
The firm had previously announced that Dundee would cease to produce of an old-style analogue tachograph — a device which measures a vehicle’s speed and distance travelled — at the Claverhouse Industrial Park site later this year.
The company, which is wholly owned by US-based Stoneridge Inc, has now said there will be a “transition” of remaining production and logistics operations to another European site, which is yet to be announced.
Marianne Frogner, vice president of tachograph systems, Stoneridge said: “The tachograph business is an important part of our overall future strategy to provide a comprehensive connectivity offering.
“By making these additional changes we can invest in higher growth segments while continuing to support our customers and maintain our workshop network via a different sales and distribution model.”
Company accounts filed last month showed that sales at Stoneridge Electronics rose from £16 million to £17.8m for the year ending December 31 with pre-tax profits more than doubling from £270,000 to £584,000 last year.
