Balfour Beatty has been appointed as the sole contractor to Scape Group’s newly launched civil engineering framework worth up to £500 million.
The Scape Civil Engineering – Scotland framework, open to all public sector bodies, will run for a period of four years from October 2018, with schemes due to be awarded from January 2019.
Each new scheme will be led by Balfour Beatty and delivered with subcontracting through local supply chains.
The creation of the dedicated framework responds to the growing pipeline of major infrastructure projects across Scotland.
It allows local authorities, local enterprise partnerships and other public sector bodies to commission works through a procurement process that provides the fastest route to market and utilises early contractor engagement to deliver best value design solutions.
Since Balfour Beatty’s appointment to the original Scape National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework in 2015, the company has secured numerous projects across Scotland.
These include the Perth Transport Futures Project for Perth and Kinross Council and the Dundee Flood Protection Scheme on behalf of Dundee City Council.
Dean Banks, Balfour Beatty’s chief executive for UK construction services, said: “Our understanding of the Scottish market coupled with our project delivery and engineering expertise will support Scape’s rapid mobilisation of infrastructure projects for our Scottish customers.
“Through our continued partnership with Scape, we will drive added social value for the communities in which we operate; supporting neighbourhoods, local businesses and local employment to help unlock long-term economic growth for Scotland.”
Balfour Beattie has also been appointed to the equivalent scheme in England, Wales and Northern Ireland which is valued at £1.6bn.
