A powerful communications masterclass aimed at business leaders and public speakers will be held in Edinburgh this week.

Organised by Dundee-based World Class Communication, the event will see acclaimed teacher and author Marcus Sheridan teach his principles of connecting with audiences on Wednesday and Thursday.

Cara Mackay, who is managing director of Errol-based shed company Gillies and Mackay, said: “The techniques I’ve learned from Marcus has really helped me when I’m communicating with my employees.

“My company is a family business which went through a generational shift and it really helped me connect with the team to see my vision of the future.

“As one of the organisers now I can see the transformation that occurs in the individuals that come through the coaching process. It’s really quite amazing.”

The first day of the event will teach the principles of public speaking with short coaching sessions. On the second day, Marcus will give individual coaching to a smaller group in front of an audience.

“A lot of people think they’ve got to stand up and tell something in as much detail as quickly as possible,” Cara added.

“He takes that idea completely away. The principles he teaches makes the audience the star of the show.

“By trusting in the system of where you ask the audience questions so they get the answers themselves, that really works.

“It’s fascinating to watch and see the trust build from the people you are speaking with.

“It’s also important to share personal stories that they might relate to and to 100% believe in what you are saying.”
