Specialist engineer Texo Group’s Dundee unit has received a major boost after securing a seven-figure rig modernisation project.
The contract win is the first for Texo’s MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit) facility, which is based at Cairnie House at Prince Charles Wharf at the Port of Dundee.
The upgrade contract for the ENSCO 100 jack-up rig was won following a competitive tendering process.
It is scheduled to take three months to complete and will involve around 60 workers.
The scope of the works takes in the removal of existing equipment, upgrades to the onboard sewage treatment plant, leg repairs and an extensive rig protection and painting programme.
Garry Kennie, engineering director, Texo Group said it was a “fabulous” first project for the Dundee MODU business division.
“We will have a number of our business units involved in this prestigious project including our engineering, fabrication, marine, integrity and accommodation teams.” Mr Kennie said.

Terry Lelean, Texo project engineer for ENSCO 100 added: “Whilst Texo may be a new company, the business has handpicked MODU specialists with many decades of experience in the sector.
“This project is ideal for our unique combined MODU offering including engineering, fabrication, integrity, marine and accommodation.
“The Port of Dundee has a long history of delivering similar MODU projects such as this and we are looking forward to bringing many more to the port.”
ENSCO business unit asset manager, Steve Shay, said: “We were impressed by Texo’s approach in this tender.
“Their full-services offering was attractive for us and represented good value for our specific requirements.”
Texo said it expected to secure a series of further contracts wins in the months ahead.
The firm, which launched earlier this year, is headquartered at Westhill in Aberdeen and has set up a series of satellite operating units.
It has previously outlined plans to create upwards of 200 jobs at Dundee.
