He said: “I sadly, often see remarks like ‘What’s the council doing to get jobs?’ or ‘who’s actually making the effort to generate interest?’
“We’ve had our fair share of bad news recently but this is proof of our collective attempts to generate investments and jobs.
“There’s so much work going on in the background but until we land it, we don’t talk about it… for obvious reasons.”
John Lawrie Group and Forth Ports will invest £5 million on the new decommissioning facility, which will open next year.
“It isn’t a magic bullet and won’t instantly create hundreds of jobs overnight but it shows that there’s momentum and a clear and visible interest in Dundee as a hub for his type of work,” Mr Alexander added.
The head of Dundeecom Callum Falconer said the announcement was a “real vote of confidence for the city”.
