Fairmont St Andrews has revealed its £1 million refurbishment plans as its French owner reported record profits yesterday.
The five star Fife resort, which boasts two championship golf courses on its 520 acre site, has started the final stage of its renovation work.
Work refurbishing the hotel’s atrium, corridors and public bathrooms was completed in 2016.
This was followed by work on the spa complex and classic sports bar last year.
The final stage of work, which carries a £1 million price tag, is under way with the ballroom and 14 meeting rooms being refurbished.
Commercial director Lorraine Garvie explained: “We are laying new carpeting, new blinds, furniture and audio visual equipment.
“We are very excited to see the finished product.”
The seven week programme of work on the conference and events spaces is due to be completed in mid-March.
General manager John Keating said he hoped the investment would attract more events of all sizes to the hotel.
He added: “The stylistic changes to our event space draws on the fresh colour palette of the surrounding countryside with coppers, greens and blues all reflective of our famed position sitting on the peninsula overlooking the historical and beautiful town of St Andrews.
“We are proud to offer what we believe to be the premier conference and event venue in Scotland.”
Fairmont’s owner, the French-based hospitality giant Accor Hotels, yesterday revealed its revenue for the year ending December 31 rose by 16.9% to €3.6 billion.
The group, which operates more than 100,000 rooms across 588 hotels, reported record earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of €712m for the financial year, a rise of 14.5%.
