A London-based French family is looking for a tutor to travel the world with them for the next 12 months and teach their children.
Offering a salary of £60,000 plus free travel and accommodation, the job will involve travelling across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, in what the family are referring to as their ‘family gap year’.
An extraordinary request has been shared on an online tutoring platform, where a family is recruiting a tutor to travel around the world with them, and ‘homeschool’ their children throughout the trip.
The unique role will involve travelling with the family on their year-long ‘family gap year’ and comes with a salary of £60,000.
The ad, which was sent to TutorHouse.co.uk last week, was posted by the parents of two boys aged six and nine, and detailed how the family are on the hunt for an experienced tutor, who can teach their sons an array of subjects as the family takes a year out to explore the world.

The family states that they will be travelling across Europe, Asia, Australia and North America for one year, however they don’t want their trip to impact their children’s education, so require a tutor to accompany them on their travels.
As to why they’ve decided to take a year-long break from everyday life, the parents say they’ve always wanted to travel but instead focused on their careers and starting a family.
They also believe their children are at an age where they are adaptable enough to cope with a full year of travelling, and that ‘experiencing different cultures’ will be invaluable to their development.
The job role will require six hours of work a day, which will involve teaching both sons an array of subjects, from English to science. Due to the boys’ age difference, the parents would like the tutor to split the tuition evenly in half each day and cater to their different levels.
When the tutor is not working they are welcome to join the family on a selection of activities and planned trips including snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, visiting an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and vacationing at Disney World Florida’.
The family say that experience in tutoring and/or teaching is a must, and it’s a real bonus if the tutor speaks French but isn’t a necessity. The selected tutor will be expected to work up to 35 hours a week including lesson planning, will be given full sick pay and 24 days holiday.
Although the family are happy for TutorHouse.co.uk to make their request public, due to the sensitive nature of the father’s work, they have asked to remain anonymous. They plan to set off on their trip in October this year, so would ideally like to have a tutor on board by the end of July.
Tutor House is London’s leading tutoring agency, offering private home tuition for all Primary, GCSE, A-Level & University subjects and they are on a mission to change the way students and parents find trusted and qualified tutors.
Their goal is to make tutoring affordable for all and allow every single student to benefit from individual tutoring, group retake courses and educational support, no matter their level or ability.
Alex Dyer, founder of TutorHouse.co.uk, said: “We sometimes receive quirky requests but this is one of a kind and definitely something we haven’t seen before! As a former teacher it makes me very happy to see that the family are still putting their kids’ educational needs first whilst they go on their once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
“We hope by sharing their request we can find the family the perfect professional! However, it’s worth noting that you must be willing to leave your home, friends and family for a whole year this Autumn.
“Regardless of that, it’s such an amazing opportunity and I can only imagine the amount of applications we’re going to receive, so if you’re a tutor who fits the bill, please apply!”
