Blair Atholl is the centre for a series of events which are taking place during the Cairngorms Nature Festival.

Over the weekend May 14/15 there will be an opportunity for first-hand experience of some of the outstanding wildlife that lives and grows in the Cairngorms National Park.

At Blair Atholl there will be something for all the family from discovering the woods to following the red squirrel trail. There will be hands-on crafting to help to make a life sized capercaillie, or drop in on the RSPB to have a go at some Hen Harrier themed crafts.

The National Trust Scotland trailer will be on hand with a nature ‘touch table’ and children’s craft activities. Children will be able to ‘go wild’ with the junior rangers and the Zero Waste Warriors will be offering games and an up-cycling project.

A fun dog show is planned for the Blair Castle caravan park with prizes for waggiest tail and judge’s favourite and a sponsored rubber duck race with ducks racing along the lade which travels to the local mill.

Scott Robertson of Atholl Estates said: “We’re delighted to be involved once again in this year’s Cairngorms Nature Festival.

“We like to come up with a fresh and varied range of free, fun events for all the family as the festival is very much an event for all ages, and is designed to attract visitors to this wonderful part of Scotland.”

Most of the events are free of charge, but some require booking in advance.
