The winner of Dundee’s first Best Kept Close title says the achievement is testament to her firm’s hard work.
NB Property Maintenance won gold in Thursday’s council-run contest to award the neatest residential close in the city.
The competition, part of the Take Pride in Your City campaign, aims to motivate city residents to help in the effort to prevent litter, dog fouling, chewing gum, fly-tipping and graffiti from blighting neighbourhoods.
The winning close is located on Dundee’s Seagate.
Elaine Bruce, daughter of NB Property Maintenance boss Neil Bruce, said the award is proof her dad and his employees have worked tirelessly to build an impressive reputation.
She said: “My dad has worked his rear end off for the past 16 years, so it’s really good to see that being recognised.
“My parents are both on holiday just now, so myself and Charlene, who also takes care of factoring along with my dad, went down to have our photos taken after the winner was announced.
“My dad is a man of few words, but he will be as proud as punch.
“I’m certainly very proud of him.”
Also on hand at the ceremony was Dundee City Council’s vice convener of neighbourhood services, Councillor Vari McDonald.
Commenting on the success of the competition, Ms McDonald said: “It is great to see so many people actively involved in the local community and the Take Pride in Your City campaign.
“The judges and I have been very impressed with the high standard of this year’s competition and we would like to congratulate this year’s winner and the efforts of everyone who entered.”
“I hope that this will inspire more people to become involved in the Take Pride in Your City campaign.”
This year’s competition was sponsored by Sustain Dundee, the Apex City Quay Hotel and the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel.
The initiative is designed to persuade residents to support positive behaviour and attitudes to enhance the city’s green reputation.
