Farmers will receive direct support payments until 2024
Farmers will continue to receive direct support payments until 2024 – two years longer than previously guaranteed by the government, the Environment Secretary Michael Gove will tell delegates to the Oxford Farming Conference this morning.
Mr Gove is also expected to confirm that the next five years are a transition period ahead of a move to support which will reward farmers for producing public benefits such as protecting wildlife and improving water quality.
However he is expected to announce that future payments will be capped, possibly on a sliding scale, ahead of the 2024 deadline.
