It was a day of glory for Aberdeenshire breeders at the Stirling Bull Sales, where north-east herds dominated all the top slots on the Aberdeen-Angus prize-winners’ board.
The county’s breeders provided a hat-trick of junior, intermediate and senior champions as well as the female championship.
The supreme champion, Glassel Jeremy Eric, came from Banchory-based Glassel Farms, owned by Sir Moir Lockhead and family, and was the senior section award winner.
This March 2017-born son of Eastfield Jacobite, shown by Sir Moir’s grandson, Ian Lockhead Anderson, was described by judge, Tom Arnott from Haymount, Kelso, as a “big, stretchy” bull.
“He’s an enormous sire and he carries it well,” he said.
In reserve supreme place was Logie Defiance, the junior champion from AJR Farms, which runs 100 Angus cows at Milton of Collieston, Ellon.
This June 2017-born bull is a son of Rawburn Enoch, who sired last February’s senior champion.
AJR Farms also showed another first prize winner, Logie Dynamite by Logie Electric.
The intermediate champion, Deveron Exstatic, was shown by Turriff breeders, Hamish and Margaret Sclater, Denhead Farms, Dunlugas.
This bull, a son of Gretnahouse Blacksmith, was born in April 2017 and was first in his class at 2018’s Black Beauty Bonanza.
Mr Arnott described the overall show of sires as having “an excellent top end”.
In the female ring, Ken and Margaret Howie from Cairnton, Lumphanan led the parade with Cairnton Elizabeth, a 21-month-old heifer by Haymount Walarlo.
The reserve junior champion also came from the north-east and Neil Massie and Sons’ Blelack herd based at Firmarron, Aboyne.
He was Blelack Lord Heartford, a May 2015 son of Weeton Evolution.
The reserve intermediate champion was Cardona Jewel Eric from Robbie Galloway’s Cardona herd at Doune.
William Allen’s Stouphill herd at Alnwick produced the reserve senior champion – Stouphill Mr Peroni, an April 2017 son of Duncanziemere Jigsaw.
